About Portrait Artist, Dominic White
I grew up in a small coastal fishing town between Boston and Cape Cod on the South Shore of Massachusetts. I became interested in art with the encouragement of my high school art teacher, the landscape painter William Ross Searle.
After receiving my BFA in Illustration in 1991 at the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford, I moved to Seattle where I taught myself graphic and web design.
In 2001 I wanted to move back to New England and chose Portland, Maine because of it’s beautiful location, historic architecture, and working waterfront culture. While I was always interested in portraiture, I really fell in love with it thanks to the small but dedicated community of portrait artists living in the Portland area.
I became a freelance web designer and portrait artist for 15 years before accepting a job at a web marketing agency. In 2024 I left that company to devote myself full-time to a professional fine art career.
I am always eager to discuss portraiture and am happy to answer any questions you might have about commissioning a fine art portrait. Please feel free to email me with any questions at . I look forward to hearing from you.
